Functional Medicine Approach to Brain Fog

Naturopathic medicine is no longer “the medicine of the future”—it’s the medicine of now. Unlike conventional approaches that often mask symptoms, naturopathic doctors focus on healing the body at its root. As true experts in natural medicine, they bring a deep understanding of how nutrition, genetics, environment, and lifestyle all shape long-term health and vitality.
At the forefront of this movement is Dr. Doug Cutler, a pioneer in integrative care. Trained under the country’s top environmental medicine doctors, he holds Michigan’s most advanced training in genetic polymorphisms and leads one of the few FDA/USP-compliant IV/IM Nutrient Therapy Clinics in the state. Dr. Cutler goes where others stop—identifying what other practitioners often overlook and offering solutions personalized to the core of each individual’s health.
What sets Dr. Cutler apart isn’t just his credentials—it’s his care. He understands illness firsthand and brings empathy, time, and a personal touch that most patients rarely experience. By addressing the mental, emotional, physical, and environmental dimensions of wellness, he helps patients reclaim their lives with clarity and confidence
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are trained as primary care physicians who blend natural healing with modern medical science. They complete pre-med undergraduate studies followed by a four-year medical program at an accredited naturopathic medical school. Their training covers clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, Chinese medicine and acupuncture, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, and lifestyle counseling.
NDs also study anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and specialties like endocrinology, gastroenterology, and pediatrics. Unlike conventional doctors who may treat symptoms with prescriptions, NDs explore root causes by considering physical, emotional, genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. They focus on whole-person healing and prevention, helping the body restore its naturalability to heal.

Dr. Cutler specializes in integrative and naturopathic medicine, emphasizing environmental medicine (how environmental toxicants impact health). His passion and expertise are helping patients achieve optimal health while spending quality time with a new patient and performing conventional and specialty type labs as needed.

Instead of reading a few popular books on natural health or attending a weekend conference on nutrition, Naturopathic Physicians are medically trained from the “ground up” in natural medicine.

A holistic MD, for example, might still do five-minute patient visits and give you thyroid medication for your low thyroid performance, but Dr. Cutler will look beyond to see what is causing your thyroid to underperform in the first place.

There are very few Licensed Naturopathic Physicians here in Michigan. Dr. Cutler is a Licensed ND and uses the widest range of therapies and testing methods to get to the root of the problem of illness.

An ND has the proper training to look at the bigger picture of an individual’s health and then take that information and use it in a protocol in the proper amount, combinations, and correct therapies, to ultimately lead to unparalleled health.
“After a sudden onset in my 20’s, I struggled with Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory disease of the digestive system. I was seriously ill. After seeing endless conventional doctors, taking medications, and enduring two major surgeries that almost cost my life, I discovered an ND who provided me with solutions and therapies that restored my health. This allowed me to see the voids and limitations of conventional medicine, and burned a desire to make a difference for others with a far superior form of medicine.
I created Cutler Integrative Medicine to be the most advanced naturopathic clinic around that discovers the root cause of individuals’ symptoms, not just suppress them with a pill-per-day mentality. I enjoy my visits with patients and provide them a level of care they are not typically used to. I discover, understand, and treat illness caused by many factors such as nutritional or biochemical dysfunction, environmental toxicants, lifestyle, genetics, mental and emotional health, and more.
Patients who have gone years just dealing with symptoms are pleasantly surprised when we can provide relief and do it in a safe, effective manner. I know firsthand what my patients go through, so this is beyond a practice for me; it’s personal.
No matter if you are already experiencing health problems or have a desire to prevent them, or even if your children are struggling with their health, we treat the individual, not the diagnosis. Your breakthrough is just around the corner.
Expect miracles!
